5.3. Syllabus

I. Middle Ages:

1. An Ancient World: The Origins of Aragon (8th-11th Centuries); 2. The Formation of Feudal Society (1035-1134); 3. Origins and Consolidation of the Crown of Aragon (1134-1238); 4. Social and Institutional Changes in the Golden Age (1238-1327); 5. Economic and Social Structures in Aragon: From the Expansion to the Crisis (1327-1396); 6. The Maturity of the Kingdom and the Crown (1396-1458); 7. Aragon on the Threshold of the Renaissance (1458-1516).

 

II. Modern Age:

1. Sources and Historiography to the Modern History of Aragon. Aragon in the Context of the Hispanic Monarchy; 2. Aragonese Institutions in the Hapsburg Age; 3. The Aragonese Population in the 16th and 17th Centuries. Aragonese Society and Social Conflicts; 4. Political Developments in the 16th and 17th Centuries; 5. The War of Succession and New Plant Edict; 6. The Expansion of the 18th Century; 7. The Aragonese Society in the Enlightenment. Culture and Thought: Enlightenment and Tradition.

 

III. Contemporary Age:

1. Crisis of the Old Regime. Revolution vs. Counter-Revolution; 2. The Formation of the Liberal State; 3. The Restoration: Economy, Politics, Society and Culture in the Late 19th Century Spain; 4. The Second Republic; 5. Civil War. Exile; 6. Franco’s Dictatorship; 7. Democratic Transition.
